Vietnamese sandwich

Have you ever eaten a Vietnamese Sandwich? If you haven't, you're missing out. First of all, it's one of the cheapest sandwich you can find. Although cheap, it's a tasty sandwich. It looks like this... a baguette cut deep in the middle, filled with veggie and meat.
You can have all sorts of meat but the traditional meat is Vietnamese ham. Anyways, some say it's the pate, while other say it's the meat that makes the sandwich good. Well, it's the combination of everything... fresh bread, pickled veggies(daikon and carrots), slightly spicy pepper, mayonnaise, pate(spreadable paste) and meat (grill pork, chicken or ham).
Just remember one thing, a Vietnamese sandwich should start with fresh baguette. Thin crispy crust and soft on the inside.
When you order, all you have to do is pick your choice of meat. Although, the ingredients are usually the same all for sandwiches, what they put inside is different for each restaurant/cafe.
If you plan to find a location with the best Vietnamese sandwich, don't bother going to chain stores like Lee's Sandwich. That's like eating burritos at Taco Bell. It's just not the same.
There should be a few good spot in the Vietnamese community. Plenty in San Jose, CA and San Francisco, CA. :) Unless you're in Vietnam, the sandwich stands are always the best!
