Can't go wrong with Polo

The brand Polo, by Ralph Lauren, once filled up 25% of my wardrobe. Well that was 10 years ago and like everyone else, I turned my head the other way after I got tired of the brand. The thing is, throughout all these years, the concept of Polo have never changed. One item in particular, the basic polo shirt, is still a favorite among many. Although basic, if you understand cut & sew, many brands have failed to achieve an exact construction of RL's polo (please don't mention or compare it to Abercrombie). With that said, Ralph Lauren is back into my life. I've just made some room for RL's polo & sweaters. Love the bold colors!

And of course, its goes beyond polo shirts.

King of pop? With 750 million album sold, no doubt about that. I'm sure you heard about it. So this is it heh? The final performance, starting July 8th. And it's only in London. Damn! Too bad for the rest of the world. The man is a musical genius! There were rumors that MJ wants to perform in Vegas but I think that's just BS. For dates, go to his Website. Michael Jackson, like Elvis, often imitated, but never duplicated.

I must add, that is one bad-ass artwork. I want the poster.

Done with my break. Well, not exactly a break but a stab at other projects, besides my own. I completed a few design work for friends, building a website for one and designing a logo for another. yes, I did it for free. Don't be surprise, this is the typical "me". As long as they appreciate what I've done for them, I have no problem using my skills to help their business. My web-design skill is fairly basic, but my friend was extremely happy with the result nonetheless. In case you didn't know, I'm just more of a graphic designer, which most people think is the same thing. Let me say it again, I'm an artist slash designer with basic web design skills. :)
Some updates about the brand, aRMY wear, which I haven't said much about. There are many reasons why but I rather not say too much until the time comes. One major change is the redesigned logo & a slight change of the name to go with it. Well, even the slightest, just imagine all the things I would have to update-business cards, garment labels, business letters, trademark, etc. That definitely will change a lot of things for marketing too. More details on that later.

In case you've forgotten, the Oscars is just around the corner. This Sunday, February 22nd, big names from Hollywood will be all over the red carpet. Too bad I didn't get a chance to catch all the great flicks this year--movies like The Wrestler, Slumdog Millionaire and MILK(considering that I'm from San Francisco). :( Tsk Tsk

For the Wrong Reason

4 people, belonging to animal rights group, was arrested for violence and threats against researchers at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Besides the threats, 3 of them were accused of entering one of the professor's house and attacking him with an object. The FBI also suspected that these members were also part of the 2 firebomb attacks at the homes of the researchers, days after the members passed out flyers with the headline "Murderers and torturers alive & well in Santa Cruz July 2008 edition".

In most cases, I would agree with the people who defends the weak, or animals in this case, but for these attacks, I would have to agree with the FBI. Whether this accusation is true or not, this behavior is inexcusable. Using violence towards the researchers and their family is beyond what any activist would suggest. Sorry, but this was a bad idea.

Another beautiful female actress that needs a little bit of light, Emmanuelle Chriqui. Along with Adam Sandler, she starred in the outrageous comedy, Dont Mess with the Zohan. Not exactly "the movie" for actresses to get to the top. Yes, it sucked.

Here is a list created by CNN--top 25 people to blame for the Financial Crisis. Take a look at number 16, instead of a person, it listed the American consumer as part of the blame for this recession. Really?!? Well, I guess living lavishly, constantly spending and borrowing beyond our means, may have pushed us in more debt than we've ever been. Ok, I'm not that shock about our debts, but I'm a little surprised that we've sitting right under George Bush. Also, why is Bill Clinton on this list? While he was president, America was doing great. Then again, maybe it's because Bill Clinton made us feel so comfortable that we started spending more. :/

Our Favorite Artist arrested

With 2 outstanding warrants, Shepard Fairey was arrested last night at his exhibition, Supply & Demand. He was charged for damage to property for the graffiti that he did in Boston. Although this may be shocking to some, many people have known him for his relentless effort to push street art, with his Obey the Giant stickers/posters, and have questioned the legality of his work. As an artist/designer myself, I constantly wonder about the rights to display work and from my understanding, it's only legal if the property owner allows you to do so-even if it's a sticker, it needs to be approved before getting it on the property. I personally wouldn't even dare putting my company stickers on properties without an approval. And still, people do it anyways.
For Fairey to be arrested, I think this is partly because of the recent fame from the popular Obama posters. Even the photographer who snapped the original picture is sueing him for infringement. Whether it was legal or not, I feel that this may not be the end of it. Now that people recognize him, more will claim for the property damage that he've done in the past.

I'm still a PC

Thanks to Bill Gates, I've been a PC since High school, 1999 to be exact. Almost every art teacher recommended that I "switch to a mac because it works better on graphics". Well, I was reluctant to make the switch because of the abundance of software for PC. Then again, I didn't realize how popular Mac was until I arrived at San Jose State University. I was completely stunned to find out that 75% of design students & professors preferred Mac. Still, I refused to switch because with the amount of money for a low-end Mac, I could purchase a top-of-the-line PC. On top of that, PC or Mac, using either one doesn't make me a better designer. Today, with all the negative talks about PC, the journey to success worked out fine for me. Even though, my last 2 design companies preferred Mac, I had no problem switching from PC to Mac user mode. Keep in mind, computers are just tools to help us do things easier and faster. If you think about it, back in the days, old school designers had no computers to assist them. Considering the amount of preliminary versions you have to do, can you imagine doing design work without the "undo" button?

The Dock of the Bay

Although this city is known for its sporadic change in weather, San Francisco is still a beautiful place to live. Even though, sometimes I wish I was in other parts of the world, I'd rather live here for the rest of my life. If not S.F, then maybe other parts of the Bay like Foster City or Millbrae. For the most part, I just love how diverse this city is, from food to culture, giving visitors the opportunity to taste a little bit of everything. Here's one spot you'd probably visit... the pier.

No Reservations

This show, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, is one of my favorite shows of all time. Similar to Andrew Zimmern's Bizzarred Food, he travels around the world but instead of finding strange(sometimes terrifying) meals, he explores the world of great cooks. Unlike most shows, stripped from "real-life" experiences and completely scripted, Anythony Bourdain has no shame in devouring a whole plate of food, in minutes-with sauce dripping out of his mouth, in the middle of a jam-packed fancy restaurant. What's interesting is that he, sometimes, goes overboard with his random outburst and if taken too seriously, could be mistaken as rudeness. For me, not only is he sincere, I like the fact that he is completely free-spirited when absorbing other cultures. If you watch the show, you'll notice that Bourdain can be shockingly blunt at times, which is exactly how some of us are whenever we encounter unfamiliar food. We, sometimes, spit and say inappropriate things, to a certain extent of course, but we don't mean that in a disrespectful manner. You should check it out if you haven't seen it. Also, try reading one of his book, The Nasty Bits, and you'll appreciate the show even more.

The World's Thinnest Cookie

With the label, the world's thinnest cookie, you know I have to try it. The Moravian Ginger Spice Cookies, a super-thin crispy snack with ingredients like Cloves from Indonesia, Cinnamon from Ceylon(Sri Lanka) and ginger from Jamaica. Well, I was sold on the idea but not so much on taste. After about 5, it sort of tastes like dried up pumpkin pie. Damn, they got me! Ha! I give these little crunchy bites 5 out of 10.

Drinking and smoking is still disgusting

Someone asked me the other day, "what kinds of alcohol do you like?" Without any hesitation, I responded, "I like at least one for each category: Hennessy and Remy for cognac, Grey Goose for vodka and Patron for Tequila." Almost simultaneously, ignoring my answer, he asked, "Do you drink it straight up or mixed with candy?" Of course, immediately, I knew where the conversation was heading. Obviously, he wants to prove his "Macho" and "manly" ways with me. And then he said, "Come on, you can't mix it like that! You gotta down it". As he continued to talk, I was waiting for him to display his so-called "manhood"(or at least fake it) by: barking like a dog, spitting on the floor and if I'm lucky, grab his crotch. Ha! Is that how a man supposed to behave? I'm certain that his cockiness thickens every time someone replies, "mixed drinks". To be honest, it was a little entertaining but annoying at the same time. Look, it doesn't matter how many ways we creatively mix an alcohol drink, it will never be as smooth as drinking a can of soda. Alcohol is part disgusting and part enjoyable, whether its "straight up", chilled in ice or mixed with sweets. As for cigarettes, regular, mild or light, makes no difference in damaging your lung. There's no way that having a harsher drink or smoke makes a person more of a man(or woman). You can either enjoy alcohol with or without another ingredient because it's not something you drink on a regular basis. A cigarette, although I haven't had one since '03, can just be a simple remedy for stress or a long day at work. If you think about it, both are equally distasteful so let's just leave it at that.

With this weather, all I need is my Ray Ban shade, a lawn chair, a 6-pack of corona and some ripe lemons. This reminds me, I need a vacation! It's been awhile since I've taken time away, and not just to another state, I'm talking about another country-Europe or Asia. Seriously, off the top of my head, I don't remember the last time I've taken a vacation! Anyways, here's a look of the outer edge of downtown San Francisco. Hmmm I don't think the view, where I was standing, did the city any justice.

The downside of being a designer

Whether you're into fashion, music or sports, being a designer does have some negative factors. I remember, my former co-worker said jokingly, "Dude, I feel like a zombie. I can't communicate with people anymore. This damn screen is sucking all the energy out of me". Although I laughed, I can't help but pause with amazement to the amount of hours that I've spent looking at the computer screen. My eyes, unwilling to cooperate to the distance farther than 30 inches, seem to have also lost its spatial visualization ability. For a quick second, I wonder if I'm better off as a painter, doing landscape painting - sitting on a hill with an undisturbed view of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Instead, I'm sitting here in front of a flat surface, left hand on the keyboard and right hand on the mouse, cranking out one design after another. By the end of the day, thinking to myself, "Oh, how I hate colors". To make matters worst, I have this indescribable soreness extending from the wrist to the elbow, evidently from moving the mouse all day long. With that said, I have to face the fact that it could possibly lead to the syndrome known as carpel tunnel.

So, with this dilemma, what keeps my creative juice flowing? Simple... the final product. Nothing makes me feel more rejuvenated than to see my creation come to life. On that day, when the final product arrives, I try not to get carried away and express only a soft smile as if I was a veteran. The fact that everyone around me is always mesmerize to see new products, it becomes a much anticipated event. All of sudden, my love for color is replenished and my passion for art is embedded in me once again.

Less Means More

You can have many different perspectives on this but it applies appropriately to the fallen economy, "Less means more". I think spending less and being more conscious about your money gives everything more value. Like a little kid with a candy bar in his hand, completely satisfied. As he gets older, realizing the fact that he can now buy the entire box, it no longer holds the same value. In this period of economic uncertainty, I'm not saying that it's okay to be less fortunate, however, I do believe that people will start holding everything much closer to their heart. As a result, people will have a much healthier lifestyle. :)

Last Good Deed For 2008

I think I've made a mistake. I just given a thoughtful donation to Goodwill, $2,600 worth of clothing, and my generosity just got flushed down the toilet. Before I get into that, here's what I did today. First of all, I wanted to clean out my inventory, all the old styles - never been worn. I had some ideas, one was to bundle it up in small bags and hand them out to the homeless. The other idea was to box it all up and drop it off at some non-profit organization. Unfortunately, the only trusted non-profit that I know of and work with is S.F Food Bank, which accepts only monetary and food donations. Eventually, I decided to go with Goodwill in San Francisco. Now, I know that Goodwill resells the donations at their retail outlets so I was a bit hesitant at first, however, the money that they earn goes back in supporting those with disadvantages. From education to job hunting, the organization helps change the lives of those in need. As stated on their website, "We are dedicated to helping motivated individuals overcome barriers to employment such as long-term welfare dependence, a physical or mental disability, homelessness, incarceration or limited use of English".

Anyways, 3 months ago, I realized that aRMY Wear is long overdue for a serious cleanup. My initial plan was to donate my inventory to a well respected organization and also give away some to friends. Of course, there was the option to sell at trunk shows, however, the fact that I wanted to start fresh in 2009, donating these items would be the best choice.

All boxed up with a receiptInside the Goodwill storeWhen I got to the store, a lady just stared at me. With my arms wrapped around this gigantic box, she says to me, "Donations? Just drop it off by the rails". And that was it. So I did exactly what she told me but just as I was about to leave, I went back and ask, is there some sort of form to fill out? Do I need to put my information on the box? Then I showed her the receipt that I printed online which says "you must submit to the donation attendant on duty". She grabs the paper, scribbles her signature and says, "ok you need to hurry up, we're close". Then as I'm walking out, wondering what the heck did I just do, another lady by the gate says to me, "sir, right this way. We're close". I seriously wanted to ask, what ever happened to thank you? A box worth $2,600, sitting in the alley, no name, no description... nothing. If I've foreseen this, I'd have taken this donation to the homeless instead.

You know what... even though it's not the kind of acknowledgment I expected, somewhere along the line, I do believe that my little contribution will pay off somehow. A less fortunate kid will be rockin an aRMY wear Tshirt and a disadvantaged person will get the proper job training. On the contrary, I'm not sure I would ever donate to Goodwill again.

Noel's Birthday

This weekend was all for my friend Noel, my right hand man and the most laid back guy I've ever known. Through thick and thin, we've been friends for 14 years. If you ever get a chance to meet him, the first impression is his name. How many Noel's do know? It's funny how he has to use the word "Christmas" in order for people to get his name right.

So for his birthday, with 20 other people, we ate at my least favorite restaurant, Buca Di Beppo. Not a place for the lactose intolerant folks... almost everything in there is covered with cheese.

Yep, that's Noel. And I ate about 1/10 of the food that was served. For me, the best part was the bread and salad. Ha!Happy 28th Birthday brother!

Open Hearts Collection

While browsing for a christmas gift, I noticed that the shape of Open Hearts jewelery is really catchy. It's basically two hearts, different sizes, in a curvature motion. Although most of the designs are based on the logo itself, it doesn't seem to have any limitations. If you're interested, these necklaces and rings, designed by Jane Seymore, are available at Kay Jewelers. Most of the styles are sold out so good luck trying to catch one.

28 Years of My Life

Here are the pictures from my 28th Birthday. I had dinner with 26 of my closest friends at Crustacean Restaurant and then hung out at Impala Lounge. If you love crabs & garlic noodles, I highly recommend this place. Although it's a little bit pricey for a birthday, it's well worth it. As for Impala lounge, it's not the wild & crazy party atmosphere(if you're into that), it's a little more mature.

Sick Colors

Lovely colors heh?!? A reminder of what you're missing out when you're sick. This holiday season, not only does it bring gifts, it also brings the sniffles. Yesterday, I woke up with all the obvious symptoms, nose all clogged up and coughing nonstop. Wasting no time, I went straight to Safeway and bought myself a box of TheraFlu, Halls drops and a new coffee mug.

My Quick Rejuvenation Technique
So I filled my green coffee mug with hot water, poured a packet of Therafllu, mixed and sipped slowly while it's hot. While waiting for the next packet(at least 4 hours), I had 2 Halls drops. Repeat... Only this time, I also went to the gym, play 5 games of basketball (couldn't even concentrate) and sweat it all out. I'm feeling so much better now! I'm doing the same thing today but I think I'm gonna skip the gym until tomorrow. :)

Go Niners!

Just my luck, my cousin called me up on Wednesday to hand over 4 tickets to the 49ers game. How can I say no to that? So I went, along with 3 of my friends, and watched the Niners beat the Jets 24-14. Wow, that was one exciting game! Besides the interception, both the Niner's defense and offense did a terrific job. As long as they keep this momentum going, they'll continue having solid games. Just 2 more wins and it's chemistry.

Upper Reserved seats are not that bad. Actually, they're more exciting than Lower Box, the fans are louder.

Can you tell me why these thin & easy-to-break chips are contained in soft bags while thick-layered snacks, such as wheat thins, neatly packed in hard boxes?

Especially tortilla chips, wouldn't it be better if it was boxed up in something hard? Please don't tell me the reason is tradition. Ever heard of innovation? Today,while enjoying my blockbuster movie, I decided to go for chips & salsa. After pouring both out, I realized I had nothing but crumbs on my plate.

What the heck am I supposed to do with these crumbs?

Should I just pour the whole thing into the salsa and make some sort of soup? A single chip gets me a little bit of juice and a tiny chopped piece of tomato. This definitely killed my appetite and the movie.One of these days, someone in the corporate office will stand up and say "hey, let's box up these tortilla chips. To help our marketing, in bold, add a line that says - 75% more whole chips."

Holiday spirit

Thanksgiving is definitely one of my favorite holidays. Besides the fact that my birthday lands on the same week, it's also a time for reflection. So what am I thankful for? That questions carries all the way through Christmas and New Years. The most obvious answer is my family. Especially my 3 little sisters, whom I feel truly bless to share my life with. Even though it seem like I always preach, giving them advice actually helps me stay in control with my own life. I think it'd be hypocritical for me to make the same mistake that I told my sisters to avoid. The other thing I'm very thankful for are my friends. I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by positive and successful people. Btw, I had a blast on my birthday! :) Still trying to collect all the pix to upload.

November 28th.... the day after thanksgiving a.k.a Black Friday and for this year, it's also my birthday! I have 25 of my close friends meeting me at Crustacean restaurant for dinner. Afterward, we plan to drive over to Impala Lounge to hang out. :)

Sweet November

Yes! Yes! Sweet November, a special time for family, friends and... myyyy birthday. :) On the 28th, a day after thanksgiving, I'd be turning 28. What makes it a bit more special this year is that it falls on a Friday, which makes planning much easier. Don't you hate it when your birthday falls on a random day like Tuesday and you'd have to wait until Friday or Saturday to celebrate? Especially in 2006, when I waited until Saturday and it was one month over... December 2nd. Anyways, I plan to get my friends together for an intimate dinner at a nice restaurant and then hang out at a lounge somewhere downtown in S.F.

Busy week

It's one of those crazy weeks again, everything just go by so quick. I know I shouldn't be complaining but this just mean one thing... more work the following week. That's just how it is for us older folks I guess. You'd think that life would get much easier as you get older right?!? WRONG!

I live between Cow Palace (known for its major tradeshows) & Monster Park (49ers home)... 5 minutes each way. It's the outer edge of San Francisco & a quick 5-minute commute to Downtown.

Mansell St... 6 blocks downhill and no stop signs.

And an accident waiting to happen. Drivers either loose control and hit a tree or plunge right into that bus stop at the end.San Bruno Ave Within a 10-block radius, we have 2 fire stations.I guess the only highlight is the completely renovated Silver Terrace Park.People from other parts of the city often come here to play baseball and soccer.Bell Market... I go here at least once or twice a weekIt has all your basic needs
The one thing I have to get is... Silk (soy milk). :)

Hmmm, career choice

I've always been very passionate about art, however, for such a broad interest, there can only be one direction. To declare a major in college, I decided that graphic design would be my career choice. Although, I graduated with a degree in graphic design, it was clear to me that I'd rather do design works for fashion. And right out of college, I was recruited to work for a clothing brand so I've considered myself an artist and a designer ever since. 4 years later, I'm still very happy with what I'm doing but sometimes I wonder... what else would I rather do? Do you think about that sometimes?

For me, being a social worker or a criminal investigator(along the line of law enforcement) have always been in the back of my head. Both seem to be quite rewarding. As a social worker, you help improve people's live and nothing is more rewarding than that. As for detective work, you get to save lives and solve mysteries. Only if I could tie all these together somehow. Hmmm

To commemorate this date, I got up early and purchased a copy of the newspaper. It's a bit of history that I'm extremely proud to hold onto. I don't care if 25% of the U.S population is anti-Obama. Just like most Americans, I'm fed up with our current situation and the way things have played out for the last 8 years. There needs to be a serious change and nobody is more qualified than this man. He represents change to me and I believe it will happen under his term.

Built-in Bluetooth phone

Why didn’t anyone think of this when Bluetooth was available? It’s so obvious that most of us needed an item like this. The LG Decoy, a phone with a built-in Bluetooth that could be stored in the back. The good news, with this built in Bluetooth, people will eventually stop walking around with their headset as though they’re waiting for important phone calls. I'm sorry to say this, but I think it looks ridiculous whenever people walk around with a bluetooth attached to their ears and not even using their cell phone. Unless you’re using it for work or driving, don't even bother putting it on.

Feeling broke? Put it this way, everyone else is feeling the same so it's not just you. However, here are some good news... Within a 2-week period, gas prices has dropped 52 cents, and even lower than $2 in some parts of the country. Also, in comparison to October of last year, theaters have gained 42% increase in revenue. Considering the fact that movie tickets has been declining all summer, this is big for Hollywood. This also tells you that people are slightly more comfortable in spending.

Only 9 days left so turn in your ballot asap to make sure your vote counts. Otherwise, you won't be able to sleep at night. Like my professor once said, "If you don't vote, don't complain. Once it's over, you have no right to say anything ". Sounds a bit harsh but it's true. You can't sit around and make a fuss about something that you were never part of. Well besides presidency, there are 34 different propositions in California, 12 state and 22 city propositions. Other than proposition 8 (eliminating same-sex marriages), read the book if you're not familiar with the other ones.

Ever heard of Wicked, the award-winning musical? They keep blasting it on the radio. I think their marketing team did a fantastic job because after listening to the promo on the radio 3 times, I'm anticipating on going to the show. The thing is, I've never perceived musical shows the way others do. Actually, I've only been to 1 musical my entire life... about 12 years ago. It was part of a class field trip... you know one of those trips that teachers try to get you to open up to other things besides video games and Cartoons. Anyways, from what I remembered, I was bored out of my mind. Well, times have changed and I often find things like this quite interesting, much different than sport events, festivals, comedy shows, etc. For me, I'd probably applaud the show from a creative standpoint, the way the musical is orchestrated. That's just the way I am.

Well, Wicked have already hit California this year so if you're down in Los Angeles, go see it. For folks in San Francisco, we'll have to wait until January '09 to get tickets.

I have high expectations for the San Francisco 49ers this year. Ever since 1999, when Steve young took a hard blindside hit, the team never recovered. Despite many changes, I think this year is the turning point for the team. J.T O' Sullivan will lead the team to the playoffs. Well, that's if Coach Nolan gets his act together.

You know what's really cool? I'm holding onto 4 tickets to the 49ers v.s Eagles. Lower Box! These go for $300-$400 a pop so you know I'm extremely excited. My friends are too since I'm inviting them to go for free. :)

Bailout

Do you know what the Bailout plan is all about? It seems like the whole country is relying on this bailout plan to prosper. Personally, I'm not sure if this will lead to a better economy in the long run. As much as I tried to read up on this matter, I'm still confused to how this will benefit us. Just imagine, giving a small stash of cash to a large crowd of poor, desperate and hungry group of people. What happens? Suddenly, tension escalates and all things become disordered. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against this so called bailout plan. If we have to sacrifice a little and throw money into the pot to get things back on track, I'm all for it. Unfortunately, the economy is far from stability so it could take up to 10 years to find out if the plan works or not.
From my understanding, the plan exceeds 400 pages and has been revised twice. One thing that still stand is that taxpayer will have to open up their wallet in order to help fix this financial mess. Most of its $700 billion, the government plans to buy distressed mortgages and bad debts. Am I wrong on this? Hopefully by doing that, we will avoid another economic catastrophe also known as the great depression. Well, whether this plan is good or bad, at least we have a plan to do something about the economic crisis. I don't know about you but I'm a bit tired of hearing about this economic crisis. I do believe that things will get better, I just don't know when.

I went to PPQ on Clemente for dinner with 8 other people. Until this day, PPQ is still one of the best locations for crabs & garlic noodles. You should try it.

As you can see, the collections have changed quite a bit. The approach that I’ve taken is much simpler than the ones in the past. The year ’06 and ’07 was a time for distressed and smeared route. Plenty of dark smudge, random inks, and burnt elements. Well I can’t speak for everyone else because many brands are still on that path. I think it was sort of the vintage style/look that everyone was going for. Anyways, with this new collection, I felt the market needed to redefine its direction once again and find a way to clear up the messy and disgruntled taste. Also, instead of focusing on “products”, designers need to start thinking about “product”, one item at a time. So with that said, each of aRMY wear’s style has its own unique and delicate details. Did you look at the neck labels? The whole season was a bold move but I’m definitely pleased with the result. It was my response to society’s endeavor for change. Glad to be part of it!

Today, Tomoji Tanabe celebrates his 113th birthday. Wow! Can you imagine living that long? There is so much history that lies in that man. That's just insane! If I could, I'd love to shake his hand and pray that longevity is also on my side. Well, he says that his diet includes drinking milk everyday and staying away from snacks and alcohol. Hmm... so much for a long a healthy happy life. Well, at least the fortune cookie told me so. Ha!

Finally, it’s up and running… a fresh new website. Completely simplified compare to the old one. Much cleaner, just like my new fall ’08 collection. So what do you think? The only thing missing on the site is the option to buy. I know it's been awhile since I'd mentioned this but I’m going to hold off on this section. After a long and difficult decision, I’ve decided to hold off on the online store until January 2009. This is part of a major change that will take place in 4 months. Have you ever eaten a Vietnamese Sandwich? If you haven't, you're missing out. First of all, it's one of the cheapest sandwich you can find. Although cheap, it's a tasty sandwich. It looks like this... a baguette cut deep in the middle, filled with veggie and meat.

You can have all sorts of meat but the traditional meat is Vietnamese ham. Anyways, some say it's the pate, while other say it's the meat that makes the sandwich good. Well, it's the combination of everything... fresh bread, pickled veggies(daikon and carrots), slightly spicy pepper, mayonnaise, pate(spreadable paste) and meat (grill pork, chicken or ham).

Just remember one thing, a Vietnamese sandwich should start with fresh baguette. Thin crispy crust and soft on the inside.
When you order, all you have to do is pick your choice of meat. Although, the ingredients are usually the same all for sandwiches, what they put inside is different for each restaurant/cafe.
If you plan to find a location with the best Vietnamese sandwich, don't bother going to chain stores like Lee's Sandwich. That's like eating burritos at Taco Bell. It's just not the same.
There should be a few good spot in the Vietnamese community. Plenty in San Jose, CA and San Francisco, CA. :) Unless you're in Vietnam, the sandwich stands are always the best!

HDR is amazing!

If you’re just starting out with photography, you should start learning this great technique… HDR-High Dynamic Range imaging. Well, it’s a bit advance for beginners but a huge step in imaging if you’re able to master it. So far, only a few are able to do this technique correctly. The purpose of HDR is to “accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows”. Originally, HDR imaging was developed in the 1930s by Charles Wyckoff, to capture intense images like the nuclear explosion. Although it was recognized for decades, not until 1997, that the technique was presented to the public by a researcher name Paul Debevec. Recently, HDR have gained its popularity with the help of newer software and cheaper digital SLR cameras. Here are some of the best HDR examples we've collected.

Anyways, we're happy to hear that The Dark Knight have made its way to the TOP 10, behind Spider-Man. As you can see, Titanic is still holding it down at No. 1 since 1997. Although, Titanic was expensive to make, costing approximately $200 million, Spider-man 3 is currently the most expensive movie ever produced ($350 million).

You know what's even crazier?!? If inflation was taken into account, Peace & War, a movie produced in 1968 would be the most expensive movie of all time. At that time, the production cost was at $100 million... today's dollar would equal to $700 million. Money well spent?

Oh Mamma Mia!!! What happened?!? Last Thursday, we said it was gonna be an interesting race between The Dark Knight and Mamma Mia!, but there was no race after all. The Dark Knight crushed every other competition, setting the opening-weekend record with $158,411,483-beating Spiderman 3, while Mamma Mia! takes in $27,751,240. It would take Mamma Mia! about 6 weekends to catch up. Well, we all can agree on one thing... Heath Ledger was amazing!

Sort of late but here's the clip of our 4th of July in Marin County.

Once again, we had our BBQ over at Crissy Field in San Francisco. We wanted to catch the fireworks at the pier but things didn't go as planned. Unlike last year, this year was cold, windy and foggy. The field was somewhat empty compare to jam-packed field in '07. Anyways, we went on with our BBQ as usual... a canopy, BBQ grill, drinks, music, etc. Eventually things got so bad that we couldn't even see the pier from Crissy Field. We still wanted to catch the firework so we decided to head over to Marin County. After finishing our food, we packed and made our way to Marin County fairground... in time for the fireworks.

Dubai just unveiled their design of an 80-story shape-shifting skyscraper. Each floor can rotate independently, allowing you to adjust to any shape you like. What?!? The price on these apartments range from $4 million to $40 million. Although developers from Canada, Europe and South Korea have expressed interest, some already expressed skepticism on the project. What do you think, mission impossible?
Let's not forget, Dubai will have the world's tallest building once The Burj Dubai is completed in 2009.

Starting today, drivers in California will not be allowed to use cell phones on road unless with a hands-free device. No cell phone use at all for those under 18. yeahh this might suck but if you really think about it... it's not that bad considering the amount of accidents on road. Have you ever seen a driver trying to make a turn or change lane while using their cell phone? Ohh man.. They're completely zoned out and ignoring the fact that there's another vehicle in the way. Actually, we're all guilty of that. Ha!

Who's Paula Garces? Well some of you only know her from the movie, Harold and Kumar, but Paula Garces have been around for awhile. She appeared in shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Shield, & CSI: Miami. Also in other not-so-great movies but she still makes it on our Hot List. We think Paula deserves a little bit more exposure. Although much older than she looks, she's still beautiful. For now, we'll keep an eye out for Paula's next move. We'd love to have her as our model. Ha!

Who will be the next big star? If you ask us, we'd probably put our money on Anne Hathaway. With her cute-innocent look & sexy figure, she can pretty much land any role she wants. For awhile, Anne was known for her role in The Princess Diaries(2001) but finally broke free from the "G-rated" movies in 2005. A nice little performance in The Devil Wears Prada, adding much credit to her acting career. Her next role, as Agent 99 in Get Smart, should also give her an extra push up the ladder. The movie is out today so hopefully it'll be as funny as it looks.

Apparently, she fell on Monday morning and was rushed to the hospital by her father. Thankfully, her manager's assistant broke her fall so it sounds like she's gonna be ok. We just hope she gets better physically and mentally.

Bad Call for Kanye

Kanye West made a bad call at Bonnaroo, a four-day annual music festival in Tennessee. At the festival, Kanye was scheduled to perform at 8:15 pm, but because he wanted to give the fans more for the buck, he decided to push it back til 2:45am to help intensify the Glow-in-the-dark Tour's lighting. This means that fans will have to wait 4hrs later to see him perform. If that's not bad enough, his show didn't start until 4:30am.
At 2:45am, as scheduled, the crowd shows up expecting to see kanye. An hour later, still no Kanye. At 4:15am, the crowd grew antsy and started chanting "kanye sucks" and giving him boos. Finally, at 4:30am, kanye came out to a disappointing crowd. Obviously, a bad call on this one. Next time, just gotta go on with the show. Regardless, he's still one of the great entertainers.

Stan Winston

A brilliant visual effects artist, Stan Winston, died last Sunday night. Most of us don't really know who he is but we should stop and pay our respect to true talent. Stan was an Oscar winner for movies like Terminator 2, Aliens, and Jurassic Park. He also worked on other movies like Predator, Batman Returns, Indiana Jones and Iron Man. Unfortunately, after battling cancer (myeloma) for 7 years, he died at age 62.

Thanks for giving our generation some masterpieces to cherish. Mr. Winston, you are the man!

Going green? The new CFX

As you may already know, Hollywood has gone mad over green motoring. One in particular, the Toyota Prius, the most unattractive vehicle ever built. A gas-electric hybrid that can hit 60 mpg. Alright, maybe it's not that bad. Speaking of ugly cars, have you seen the Pontiact Aztec? Ha! Anyways, Honda just released the Hydrogen-powered CFX today... running only on hydrogen and electricity. This means that it only spits out water. Crazy heh? It could be mother nature's friendliest vehicle.

Here is the Honda Prius. If it wasn't for the environment, would you get one?

Here is the next best thing... the Honda CFX! In comparison, the CFX triples the mileage of a regular gas vehicle and doubles the mileage of a hybrid.

Good luck trying to get one. Most of the cars from the first batch have already been sold.

The game & the festival

On Saturday, we went to the Giant's v.s Padres game. After a disappointing game, we stopped by the Union Street Festival.

At the game, the minute we got to our seats, the Giants were already down 4-0. Not a great way to start the game. Sadly, after a few innings, we realized the game was going nowhere.

After the 6th inning, we started walking around.

Checking back on 7th inning and Giants were down 5-0.

Here we are looking outside and getting ready to leave.
Final score 5-1 Padres.

After driving around for 45 minutes, we finally found parking at the Union St Festival.

After 99 years of printing traditional road maps, California State Automobile Association had decided to print its last paper map... another victim to the shift in digital technology. Who still use traditional road map? Nowadays, directions can easily be found on the internet. On top of that, most vehicles are GPS equipped. Even cell phones have the capability to download maps. The only question is: What happens when your little gadget stop working? Hmmm

After 3 days of scorching heat, S.F is finally cooling down. Perfect for the 12k Bay to Breakers run. We're not participating in the event but will be at S.F Aids walk (7/20/2008) and Susan G. komen's race for the cure (9/21/2008). The S.F marathon (8/03/2008) is a maybe. Anyways, we did a little bit of running around town ourselves yesterday. While trying to take care of business, we took a few shot of the town.

No not the band! It's hot as hell up here in S.F (87). Ok maybe we're exaggerating compare to the other cities in Norcal. San Jo and Sac are burning right now. Weather forecast says 95 in San Jose and 101 in Sacramento. You know what though... it's scary hot. With all the talks about global warming, this can't be what they're talking about is it? No, don't worry. Army Wear's scientist have checked with our sources (CNN, Yahoo, Examiner, and the Chronicle) and confirmed that everything is all good.
